Biography
Czech, Stanislav Libenský (1921 - 2002), Jaroslava Brychtová (b. 1924) Stanislav Libenský (1921-2002) and Jaroslava Brychtová (b. 1924) are two of the most prominent glass artists of the 20th century. They (along with Dale Chihuly) elevated glass from its previous status as a “decorative” art to the realm of fine art. Redefining the technology of glassmaking and establishing a new relationship between light, space and color, the Czech couple identified glass as a new viable material for their monumental sculptures. Using a unique mold-melting technique, the couple created large conceptual pieces that are both thought-provoking and beautiful. Libenský Brychtová’s artworks constitute the most significant part of the Gerard L. Cafesjian Collection.
