Swarovski Light Socks
|
In 2007 Swarovski Crystal Palace invited 18 international designers and artists to create their own interpretation of a chandelier. The renowned New York architectural studio Diller Scofidio and Renfro responded by creating their acclaimed “Light Sock.” Presenting a thoroughly modern version of the chandelier, the design eliminates nearly all of a chandelier’s elements and is composed of only a mesh sock filled with hundreds of Swarovski crystals. A light buried in the sock creates a shimmering orb of light. In a dimly-lit gallery located at the top of the escalator stairway, an installation of 24 light socks evokes a landscape of light that is both disorienting and mysteriously compelling.
