PEARLS OF KOMITAS’ MUSIC

Music of Armenia and Cafesjian Center for the Arts are excited to invite you to the "Pearls of Komitas’ Music" concert on July 24, 2015.

Performing on the night are the soloists of the Armenian classical music ensemble 'Kantegh" who have joined for a special concert, which promises to deliver a programme of Komitas’ melodies with a fresh and unique interpretation (transcriptions for saxophone and piano). The programme will also include Arpine Kalinina's piano improvisations on Komitas' meodies.

Arpine Kalinina: Award-winning composer Arpine Kalinina is a master’s student at the London Royal Academy of Music. Kalinina has been the Artistic Director of the classical ensemble "Kantegh", which she founded in 2007. Kantegh performs within and outside of Armenia to make Armenian classical music accessible to wider public and especially to younger audiences. In 2010, as a composer, Kalinina received the Russian Federation's "Triumph" Award and Gold Medal for Highest Achievement in Art and Literature, becaming the first artist from Armenia to receive this award. In February 2014, Arpine received the special "Haykyan" award established by the Youth Foundation of Armenia, bestowed by the President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan. Kalinina was awarded the prize for the initiation and delivery of a series of concert-lectures on Komitas throughout the Republic of Armenia.

IMPORTANT: The concert starts at 20.00 sharp. No entry to the Auditorium after the performance starts.
