Encounters with Art: Yervand Kochar

June 03, 2011
Within the Encounters with Art program an evening dedicated to the anniversary of celebrated Armenian artist Yervand Kochar was held at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts on June 2, 2011 in a cooperative effort with Yervand Kochar Museum.

The event program included: premiere of the documentary film "Illustrations of "Sasna Tsrer" Epos by Yervand Kochar", Hayk Melikyan's piano concert dedicated to the memory of the artist, the exhibition of the reprints of "Sasuntsi Davit" graphic series.

The evening was opened by welcoming speech of CCA Educational Coordinator Mrs. Mane Mkrtchyan and the Director of the Yervand Kochar Museum, Mrs. Lala Kochar. The opening remarks were further followed by the documentary screening that discussed at length the creation and the importance of the illustrations to the Armenian epos, created by the Artist.

The documentary was summed up by art critic and art historian Dr. Levon Chugaszyan. In his speech Dr. Chgaszyan shared his recollections of Kochar and the way his life was intertwined with the histpry of Yerevan.

The event continued into a musical part, in which Hayk Melikyan introduced a wonderful program presenting music by Komitas, Eduard Mirzoyan and Haroutyun Dallalyan.

At the end of the evening the guests were invited to the Star Landing where the reprints of "Sasuntsi Davit" graphic series were exhibited.
