Hagop Hagopian: Iron Narratives Exhibition Opens at Eagle Gallery of the Cafesjian Center for the Arts on March 27

March 27, 2013
Hagop Hagopian: Iron Narratives exhibition opens at Eagle Gallery of the Cafesjian Center for the Arts on March 27.

For the first time, Hagop Hagopian: Iron Narratives exhibition reveals sculpture as a distinctive artistic direction in Hagopian’s oeuvre. Included is a broad selection of three-dimensional works from the series of anthropomorphic and animal figures, as well as thematic approaches (62 sculptures).
“Man is the main theme for an artist,” noted Hagop Hagopian. This was the fundamental creative principle that guided Grandmaster in his work for decades. Having worked with paintbrush for over forty years, during the 1980s, Hagopian directed his artistic focus to the world of sculpture. The anthropomorphic and animal-form syntheses of common hand tools and work related implements, which from the beginning were created as prototypes of new residents for paintings, gradually were regarded as individual sculptures. The various combinations of pliers, tweezers, scissors and medical instruments gave birth to new Hagopianesque “beings”. The last decade was the most prolific period for the creation of sculptures.

The exhibition will last till May 26, 2013, with free admission.
