The Cafesjian Center for the Arts Celebrates Fête de la Musique

June 22, 2011
On June 21 the Cafesjian Center for the Arts joined the celebrations of Fête de la Musique, in a joint effort with the Embassy of France in Armenia.

The Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, is a music festival taking place annualy, on June 21. The idea was first broached in 1976 by American musician Joel Cohen, then employed by the national French radio station France Musique. Cohen proposed an all-night music celebration at the moment of the summer solstice. The idea was taken up by French Music and Dance director Maurice Fleuret for Minister of Culture Jack Lang in 1981 and first took place in 1982 in Paris. The purpose of the festival is to promote amateur and professional musicians' performance in the streets and to hold free concerts - making music accessible for all.

On the open-air stage at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts two major concerts took place within the Music Day - of famous French "Bratsch" band and of well-known Armenian rock-group "Beautified Project".
