Unique exhibition of Italian designed opens at CCA during the Museum Night

On May 17, 2014 the Cafesjian Center for the Arts will join the international museum community worldwide to celebrate the Museum Night event, by opening its galleries to the public for free from 10:00 till midnight. 

The major event for the Museum Night is the opening of a unique exhibition Transforming Reality: Italian Design Innovation and Fantasy in Eagle Gallery, featuring a selection of Italian decorative arts pieces from the Gerard L. Cafesjian Collection, created by internationally renowned design studios and artists, such as Gaetano Pesce, Andrea Branzi, Piero Fornasetti and others. The visitors will also have a unique opportunity to attend the two recently opened exhibitions Libenský Brychtová: Light through Space in Gallery One and Friedensreich Hundertwasser: Regentag in Sasuntsi David Garden Gallery. 

The documentary Hundertwassers Regentag by Peter Schamoni, which reveals the fascinating portrait of the famous Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser will be screened at the Special Events Auditorium at 14:00 and 16:00. Permission for free screening of the film has been granted by the SCHAMONI FILM & MEDIEN GmbH. 

As part of the special programming of the Museum Night, three sessions of educational programs based on the exhibition Friedensreich Hundertwasser: Regentag, will be offered to children and adults. 

• Magical Labyrinth 
Inspired by the vibrant and whimsical works of the Austrian prominent artist Friedensreich Hundertrwasser the participants will create their “Hundertwasser” style colorful collages, using beans, rice, corn and other natural materials. 
Time: 12:00pm - 1:30pm
          2:30pm - 4:00pm

• City Hundertwasser  
Participants will be involved in creation of three-dimensional “Hundertwasser buildings” inspired by the artist’s philosophy and architectural approaches. The City Hundertwasser program will be led by architect Vasken Brudian.
Time: 5:00pm – 7:00pm


On the International Museum Day on May 18 the Center offers free admission to all galleries from 10:00 till 20:00.
