On April 4 at 14:00PM, a meeting with Paris-based Armenian artist Achot Achot took take place at the Special Events Auditorium of the Cafesjian Center for the Arts, in the scope of “Encounters with Art” event series. The theme of the meeting was “The Psychology of Creation.”
Achot Achot (b. 1961, Yerevan, Ashot Ghazaryan) received his early artistic education in Armenia, including studies at the Yerevan State Conservatory, before becoming actively involved in the experimental artistic movements that emerged in the late Soviet period. He was among the participants of the influential “3rd Floor” movement, as well as early avant-garde and performative practices that played a defining role in the formation of contemporary art in Armenia. Since the early 1980s, Achot Achot has exhibited widely in Armenia, Europe, and the United States, with solo and group exhibitions in institutions such as the National Gallery of Armenia, the Zimmerli Art Museum, and venues in Paris, Los Angeles, and Venice. His work has also been presented within international festivals and projects that engaged with experimental and performance-based practices. His works are held in major public collections, including the National Gallery of Armenia, the Fonds National d’Art Contemporain (France), and other international institutions. Working across painting, drawing, and conceptual formats, Achot Achot’s practice reflects a sustained engagement with abstraction and formation of new visual languages, reflected in his Afactum series.
After the event, visitors had the opportunity to view the exhibition, Criterion in the Center’s Eagle and Sasuntsi Davit Garden Galleries, as well as Gallery One.
